Finding the Right Scrapbook Album

What’s The Right Scrapbook Album For Me?

When it comes to scrapbooking, the scrapbook album is always going to be one of your most important tools. The album itself can set the tone for all the contents inside and therefore should be decided upon carefully. Not only do you have to think about colors and patterns, however: even the size can make a difference.

You’ve probably already figured out that a scrapbook album can come in a wide assortment of sizes, colors, styles, and designs. Not every album fits every theme, however. Not all scrapbooks have to be really large with big pages and not all scrapbooks have to be overly colorful and patterned. That’s why it’s important to first think about what kind of album you are creating.

Scrapbook Album Examples:

If you’re making a recipe scrapbook, for instance, and you actually plan on using it as a cookbook then you might want to consider a scrapbook album that’s large, possibly a 12 X 12. The big pages will easily allow you to read the recipes as well as let you use embellishments and adornments on the pages where you want to add some decorations.

If you plan on taking pages out from time to time then a 3-ring binder might be appropriate. That way, you won’t have to carry the entire scrapbook with you when you only need a page or two out of it. This is also a good scrapbook to use if you’re having a party and you want all of your guests to make pages for your scrapbook. This is a particularly popular idea at baby showers, for instance, where guests create their own pages with parental advice and messages for the mother to be.

Of course, the number of pages will usually dictate the style that you purchase. If you want to commemorate your 3 day “girls only” vacation to Las Vegas then a small, 10 page scrapbook might be big enough. However, if you want to create an album that chronicles your 3 month backpacking trip of Southeast Asia then you’re probably going to need something just a little bit bigger.

When it comes to size, you will also want to think about where you will be storing it. A 12 X 12 album might sound better because it’s bigger, but it might not fit into a standard sized bookshelf, either. You should keep in mind, too, that 8.5 X 11” pages will fit into these albums, but they’ll be a little small. On the other hand, if you get a smaller album, larger pages and layouts can always be trimmed down to fit them.

Quality of the album might be a factor as well. Certainly, we all want to save money in this day and age but you don’t want something that’s going to fall apart on you after you’ve opened it a few times, especially if you have children that will be looking at it. Consider paying just a little bit more for an album that is well-crafted because it might mean that you won’t have to replace it over the years.

There are several types of albums available. The most popular ones include the post-bound album, 3-ring binder, hinge, spiral-bound, and stapled-spine. The post-bound album has a couple of screw heads that holds the pages together tightly. It’s one of the most popular types. The 3-ring binder, on the other hand, uses metal rings. Spiral-bounds and stapled-spines are definitely one of the cheapest options, but they’re usually smaller with fewer pages.

One Last Scrapbook Album Thought:

When you’re out looking at albums, keeping in mind what you’re going to use the scrapbook album for will help you determine which type is best suited for your needs.
